๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ‘ Earth Might’ve Had Two Moons...

So… What If I Told You the Moon Might’ve Had a Sibling?

So you know that one friend who randomly drops,

"What if the Moon isn’t what we think it is?"

and you're like, "Bro, it’s literally the Moon."

WELL. Plot twist: they might be right.

Before you write this off as sci-fi fanfic — yes, some scientists actually think Earth had a second moon billions of years ago.

And not like, "lol we named a random rock a moon" kind of second moon.

Like, a real, orbiting sibling moon.
And the story doesn’t end well. ๐Ÿซ

๐Ÿ’ฅ The Two-Moon Theory, Explained (Kinda)

This is a real hypothesis from 2011 called the "Big Splat" theory.
Here’s the short version:

  1. After Earth formed, a Mars-sized object (called Theia) crashed into it.

  2. That impact ejected debris, which eventually formed our current Moon (the basic “Giant Impact Hypothesis”).

  3. But maybe… it also formed a second, smaller moon.

  4. That second moon orbited Earth peacefully for millions of years.

  5. Then one day, it slowly drifted closer...

  6. And eventually, collided with the bigger moon in a super slow-motion cosmic squish.

  7. The smaller moon? Absorbed.
    Poof. Gone.

Like a sibling fight where only one walks away... and becomes the Moon we all romanticize.

๐ŸŒ” Why Do Scientists Even Think This?

Good question.
There are weird things about our Moon that the second-moon theory helps explain:

  • One side of the Moon (the far side) is way thicker and more mountainous

  • The near side is smoother and has vast lava plains (aka the face we always see)

Some scientists say:

"What if that lopsidedness happened because another moon slammed into it and got absorbed?"

Honestly? Sounds like a cosmic drama I’d binge on Netflix.

๐ŸŒ So What Happened to Moon #2?

It didn’t crash with a boom — it smooshed into the bigger moon like space Play-Doh.
Because the collision was relatively slow, it didn’t destroy the Moon, but merged into it, altering the shape of the far side.

Basically:
๐ŸŒš “hey bestie…”
๐ŸŒ• crunch
And now we have one chunky, slightly asymmetrical moon.

๐Ÿง  Do We Have Proof?

Not exactly. It's still a theory.
But the far side of the Moon is so different from the front that this idea is one of the better explanations we’ve got.

Scientists are still running simulations and collecting data from lunar missions.
So Moon #2 might be gone, but her impact (literally) lives on.

๐Ÿ“Œ TL;DR (Too Lunar, Didn’t Read):

  • Earth might have had two moons billions of years ago

  • The second, smaller one eventually crashed into the main Moon

  • That collision may explain why the far side of the Moon is so weird

  • It’s called the Big Splat Theory (which honestly slaps as a band name)

  • Is it confirmed? No. Is it cool? Absolutely.

✨ Final Thought:

We romanticize the Moon like it’s this peaceful, mysterious beauty.
But turns out, it might’ve eaten its sister.
And now it just quietly glows, acting innocent while keeping that spicy cosmic secret.

The Moon:

✨ soft aesthetic on the outside
๐Ÿ”ช murdery core on the inside

๐ŸŒ• “Moon’s Secret”

The Moon once had a sister bright,
They twirled in silence, shared the night.
But one drew close, and with a sigh—
She vanished in the lunar sky.

Now craters mark where love once spun,

A secret kept from Earth and Sun.
